FAREWELL

Dear Students,

We have come to the end of the semester and this is a brief note to bid you farewell. I would like to wish you the best in all your undertakings in the future. I hope you have enjoyed the reading class and the class blog. I must say that I am very happy you have learnt about blogging so quickly - I was just lucky to teach a group of intelligent bloggers in my class. Once you leave the class you can still have access to the class blog and all the material and links provided for you. You are very welcome to keep your student blogs active if you wish.

Sometimes, a biography describes a person's life from birth to death. At other times, the writer concentrates on a particular period in a person's life. We will be reading biographies of famous Australians and other people. We will be practising completing a time line, making notes of key points as events, turning points and achievements.

Assessment Task - Reading a Biography of a Famous Person

TASK 1:

• Read a Biography of a famous Australian from Koori History and do the timeline
• Read Fred Hollow's biography and do the timeline

TASK 2:

Turning points and Achievements (BIO)

• Read Nelson Mandela's Biography and identify the turning points and achievements. List them in two groups in one new post in your blog. When you finish we will have an open class discussion.
• Read a biography of your choice and identify the turning points and achievements as above.

            


TASK 3:  Look through the Famous People Biographies Lessons 

•                 Choose a famous person
•                 Listen and read the biography text
•                 Do the vocabulary, phrase match and gap-filling activities

Each week you will need to collect news clippings about current issues and the most useful sources are The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian and The Daily Telegraph. Current concerns are usually, immediately covered by the press and it will mean you become familiar with some of the local and macro environment.

Class Activity - Take some notes using key words after reading the article you have brought in class.

Homework = Summary - Write a brief summary of the main issues the article deals with based on your notes.

Personal reflection - Respond in a written format about attitudes, feelings, reflections on the content and implications of the article.

SURVEYING A TEXTBOOK

During your studies you will be exposed to different textbooks. In this class we will be studying the parts of the textbook, surveying the textbook and using the textbook effectively. This is to assist you with your further studies and more precisely with your assignments.

TASKS FOR TODAY

TASK 1 :  Listen to Greener World and do the activities. Write your opinion on the topic in 3-4 sentences

TASK 2 : Listen and read Kyoto protocol and do the activities. Write your opinion on the topic.

TASK 3 : Listen and read about Solar Taxi and give your opinion on that.
